Q Film Lab

ABOUT Q FILM LAB: 

The Q Film Lab provides first time/emerging writers with tools and guidance onto creating their short film script. Writers accepted into the program will participate in an intensive screenwriting workshop covering the basics of storytelling and script structure along with mentorship and guidance as they complete their script. 

By the end of this lab, participants will have a completed short film script, along with a treatment and visual deck. They will have all the necessary elements to be able to either plan to go into production or apply for funding/grants. 

Workshops will be held virtually through Zoom.

Length of Lab:

A 6-Week Intensive Workshop:
January
16th, 2021 to February 20th, 2021


​Every Saturday from 10:00am - 1:00pm PT

Expected Commitment:

(6) 3-Hour Virtual Workshops with fellowship cohort and workshop facilitators.
​

(4) 1-on-1 Sessions with facilitators dedicated to the development of your short script.

Who can apply?

Preference will be given to members of the BIPOC+ LGBTQIA2S+ community who are first time/emerging writers.

Cost of Program:

$150.00 USD

*Limited partial scholarship opportunities will be available.  If interested in applying please select the option prior to submitting application. 

Payments will be due upon acceptance, installment plans are also available upon request.

  • Call for Applicants: Monday, November 9th, 2020
  • Deadline to Apply: Friday, December 18th, 2020 
  • Notification of Acceptance and Payment Due: Monday, January 4th
  • Q Youth Film Lab Dates: January 16th, 2020 - February 20th, 2020

Evelyn Angelica Martinez
writer • Director • Producer
Evelyn Angelica Martinez is a first-gen Latina filmmaker based out of Los Angeles. Her most recent film, JOYRIDE, directed by Edwin Alexis Gómez, premiered at the 2020 PBS Short Film Festival, winning the “Most Popular” Award. She is a producer for the upcoming feature films: JOYRIDE and TRANS LOS ANGELES. Along with producing, Evelyn is in the midst of developing her own projects, DUENDES, a fantasy VR short and feature film, LUZ Y SOLEDAD. Previously she was part of the team at Lawrence Bender Productions (KILL BILL, INGLOURIOUS BASTERDS), Quebrada Entertainment, and NALIP (National Association of Latino Independent Producers). ​

Edwin Alexis Gómez
​WRITER • DIRECTOR • PRODUCER
Edwin Alexis Gómez is a Queer Nicaraguan-American writer, director, producer and actor. His directorial debut QUÉDATE CALLADO (STAY SILENT) won a Grand Jury Award at the 2018 Outfest Fusion Film Festival. His sophomore short film LA SAD BOY premiered at the 2019 Outfest Film Festival and is currently making its rounds via the festival circuit. His latest short film JOYRIDE premiered this summer at the 2020 PBS Short Film Festival where it won the "Most Popular" award. He has been selected as a 2019 Playwriting Fellow for Lambda Literary Foundation Writers Retreat for Emerging LGBTQ Voices, a 2020 VONA Voices Fellow in Screenwriting, and as a participant of Cine Qua Non Lab’s inaugural 2020 Storylines Lab. Gómez is also developing his digital series FRENEMIGAS and is currently bringing his feature film version of JOYRIDE to life.
